Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC) Day Printer Friendly
The Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) helps prepare students to lead positive, productive, and rewarding lives by teaching personal responsibility, enhancing leadership skills, experiencing the value of teamwork, and discovering the benefits of self-confidence. The JROTC program is active in over 3,000 high schools in all 50 states.
In Alaska, over 1,400 students at 13 high schools statewide are enrolled in Army, Air Force, and Navy JROTC programs. Cadets learn from dedicated retired military personnel, each bringing a wealth of knowledge and practical experience to their students.
Every year, JROTC cadets in Alaska receive awards that recognize their loyalty, academic excellence, and citizenship, among many other things. Following through on a proud tradition, one cadet from each of the 13 schools will receive the Governor's JROTC award. The Governor’s award is conferred upon Alaska's outstanding Army JROTC, Air Force JROTC, and Navy JROTC cadets, acknowledging academic excellence, physical fitness, community service, or leadership, as determined by their commanders and instructors at ceremonies in Anchorage each year.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Sarah Palin, Governor of the State of Alaska, do hereby proclaim April 6, 2007, as:
Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC) Day
in Alaska, and congratulate the recipients and urge all Alaskans to recognize the value and importance of the JROTC in assisting young people to become leaders and good citizens.
DATED: March 28, 2007
