Save for Retirement Week Printer Friendly
WHEREAS, National Save for Retirement Week is an annual effort to increase public awareness for the need to save more for retirement.
WHEREAS, the National Save for Retirement Week, was created to bring awareness to employers and employees regarding the importance of saving.
WHEREAS, during this week, all workers, including public and private sector employees, and self-employed individuals can benefit from increased awareness of the need to save for their retirement. WHEREAS, the amount a person will require for basic needs at retirement continues to grow making the need to save for retirement even more important
WHEREAS, traditional pensions and Social Security benefits provide retirement income, but with health care costs rising and life spans increasing, a person may need as much as 80-100 percent of pre-retirement income to maintain a current standard of living.
WHEREAS, many employees may not be aware of all the retirement savings options or may not be taking full advantage of their workplace defined contribution plans to the full extent allowed by law.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Sarah Palin, Governor of the State of Alaska, do hereby proclaim October 21-27, 2007, as:
Save for Retirement Week
in Alaska, and encourage all Alaskans to become engaged in saving for their future.
