C8H10N4O2, often derived from tea

certain kinds of headache.

See café.]
- caf´feinat´ed
(kàf´e-nâ´tîd) adjective
Caffeine
Caffeine, chemical found
in plants such as coffee, tea, and cacao. It is also present in most cola
beverages. The drug increases the blood pressure, stimulates the central
nervous system, promotes urine formation, and stimulates the action
of the heart and lungs. Caffeine is used in treating migraine, increases
the potency of analgesics such as aspirin, and can relieve asthma by widening
the bronchial airways. Caffeine is produced commercially chiefly as a by-product
in making decaffeinated coffee.
caffeine (noun)
tonic: caffeine, nicotine, alcohol
Food and Drink, 1966
Cola drink bottlers and canners receive FDA dispensation not to list caffeine as an ingredient. Cola drinks generally have 4 milligrams of caffeine per fluid ounce, coffee 12 to 16.
Caffeine is a "base analogue" of Adenine, and in fact can sometimes be incorporated into a growing DNA chain, instead of Adenine. Caffeine is a weak mutagen, for this reason.
basically, our current
economy legitimizes this legal stimulant and gives it away free at the workplace.
the effect is to "stimulate" you into being more efficient and productive, "stimulating"
the economy. this is why pot, which relaxes you, heals you (the medical
INDUSTRY cannot prescribe it yet), and makes you less violent (no need for the
paid police force to break up fights. that's why alcohol is okay and perfectly
legal). ecstasy
makes you happy and communal, and touchy feely. nothing dangerous or money
making in that. ILLEGAL. hallucinogens
takes away eyeballs from advertisements, distracting you from billboards and
tv commercials. not to mention the boundary
dissolving effects it has on one's perception
- how the current system is so utterly backwards at this point. can't
have that. ILLEGAL. the legality and illegality of chemicals has
nothing to do with health. it has everything to do with taxation and money.
if we become complacent, then we don't work, or even want to. (that is why power
suited cokeheads pay exorbitant amounts to snort shit up their nose - so they
can feel more confident and productive). luckily for me, i don't like
working, and i don't even smoke pot. what i do like is time to myself,
without some middle guy coming in and swiping a share away from me. my
time is spent NOT making money which takes it out of the current system.
when i go to work, i load up on the stimulant caffeine, and labor for a few
hours. when i go play, i load up on more interesting visionary substances, currently
illegal (how can anyone make a fungus or plant illegal? it's like making poison
ivy illegal) but incredibly safe compared to crap like beer, alcohol (i don't
touch that shit - i equate it with heroin), cocaine...basically all government
sponsored and imported drugs. i definitely have my personal decisions,
and that's just that - personal goddamn decisions. so go get stoned, drunk,
and shoot up if you have to. make your choices. no one can completely
abstain from drugs. - @Om*

Coffee has become a religious experience. At least
that is how the folks at Starbucks
and the Family Christian Center in Munster, Indiana feel. The church is
the first in the U.S. to open a Starbucks in its lobby. Religion has always
been drug pushers of the legal stimulant caffeine.
