August 30, 2007: The women’s month is drawing towards the end where most people wish it could be extended so that to lobby for more women’s campaigns, as it is believed that women are still not yet free, especially at workplaces, streets and homes.
They’re still victims of subjugation at workplaces, of being mugged in the streets and of assault at homes.
BTM, at least for the entire month, was publishing positive stories about women and lesbian women that prompted comments and opinions from the readers about the month that celebrates women.
Some of the comments and opinions were negating the triumphs, if any, of women while some extolling the victories they made over the years.
Meanwhile, Behind The Mask wishes to nudge and comment that some opinions – that of Dawn Cavanagh with the heading ‘So then we celebrate!’ to be precise – were somehow misinterpreted, and obviously the tone was twisted during the editing process.
We genuinely apologise for distortion and repression of the ideas purported within the piece by Cavanagh.
Although it’s an ‘alternative media’, BTM is subsumed within the colossal number of media publications that subscribe to the general editorial codes and ethics, and therefore apologies are inevitably qualified as all opinion pieces are subject to editing.
