human right activists call for investigation

October 8, 2004: Society for Democratic Initiatives in Sierra Leone, a human right organization, has called on government to fully investigate the circumstances surrounding the gruesome murder of a prominent gay activist, Fanny Ann Eddy.

According to a press release issued Wednesday, the Organization says the 30-year old woman, founder of the Sierra Leone Lesbian and Gay Association, was found dead on the 30th September in her office in Freetown reportedly raped and stabbed and her neck broken.

"As a free society it is an infallible rights of all to belong to any religious group and to assemble and associate with any group of people," the release quoted the constitution.

Members of the Organization say they want the authorities to bring those responsible for the crime to justice.
