July 03, 2006: The state minister for ethics and integrity, Dr. James Nsaba Buturo, has attacked homosexuals for using the media to promote immorality and pornography.

Buturo, while opening the Abundant Life Children Orphanage Centre, Sokolo in Wakiso district recently, said unlike in the past, homosexuals today are bold and openly demand recognition in society.

“Years back, these people were unheard of and alien to our African culture. It is an abomination for them to shamelessly demand for a law protecting their interests,” Buturo said.

“I will soon table a Bill in Parliament to enact a law on pornography,” he said.

He also warned sorcerera and pro-witchcraft Ugandans to desist from the vice. He said witchcraft was a form of psychological torture, which is expensive in terms of money and time and exposes people to poverty.

Buturo said witchcraft drains people’s savings that could have been injected into development projects to alleviate poverty.

“My rivals failed to beat the nomination deadline because they were still fulfiling the witchcraft demands,” Buturo said, adding that that was why he was elected unopposed.

The NGOs Reach Out Village Ministry and Show Mercy funded the building of the orphanage that cost about sh56m. Reach Out Village Ministry is a local NGO while Show Mercy is based in the USA and is running a line of orphanage homes.
