Gay rights activist Peter Tatchell on Mugabe
I wouldn't be surprised if Mugabe is himself a closet, self loathing, repressed queen. He fits the archetype,” claims gay rights activist Peter Tatchell. “His demonstrative, ostentatious, anti-gay tirades, must lead us to question why he is so obsessed with homosexuality.

ART – March 5: Tomboi, a stylish clothing label designed specifically for lesbians but not exclusively, is set to be the hottest fashion item for every Tomboy-ish lady in South Africa.

The label, which ranges from underwear, sleepwear and “anywear” – meaning that one can wear it anywhere – is the brainchild of designers Desiree Dickinson and Kim Voller.

This brand is a combination of male inspired designs with feminine lines to create the ideal tomboy image.

“We feel that there are a lot of women who don't necessarily wear lacy lingerie, and we wanted to create clothing that allowed women to feel sexy but still be comfortable”, said Dickinson.

Embracing both femininity and masculinity, Tomboi was launched last week in Durban and will be launched in Johannesburg on 7 March.

Ladies with masculine personalities, who cannot find that particular item they are looking for in the retail stores, can now purchase online from the label’s website that started running since last week Friday.

It has taken Voller and Dickinson over a year to finish designing and finding a company that would assist in manufacturing the clothes.

“We love clothing and fashion, and we realised that there’s not a lot for people who call themselves tomboys”, said Dickinson.

The label is designed to fit in with their personalities, creative spirit and lifestyle, according to the designers.

Dickinson says Tomboi is designed to clothe all women who “are independent, not scared to offer their masculine self, but are also in touch with their feminine side.”

“We want the brand to be something that every lesbian and tomboy can recognise and relate to”, she continued.

In future, the designers wish to include a range of belts, accessories and a lot more color.

“We believe that being tomboys ourselves [assists us to] know what tomboys would like”, concluded Dickinson.
