June 26, 2006: The Church of Uganda is determined to fight homosexuality and lesbianism, the Bishop of West Ankole Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Yonah Katoneene, has said.

Katoneene said church leaders were shocked by reports that foreign behaviours like homosexuality and lesbianism had reached schools, where the promoters were using money to attract the youth.

He said, "Young people have to be alert and say no to such influences."

Katoneene was last week speaking at Nyabubare secondary school in Bushenyi district, during a function to celebrate good performance in the 2005 O'Level examinations.

He said Western countries were introducing their cultures in Uganda "because of their money, but we have said 'take your money we shall go with our faith'," he said.
