Current 909 is Pure's project for electronic music, and this disc is a bringing together of early Atmosfear releases with around 40 minutes of unreleased material. Unsurprisingly, it's a mixed bag with the pounding beats of 'Hospitalism' sounding a lot like Ultraviolence, the scuzzy sampling of 'The Future of Human Containment' remeniscent of Muslimgauze, 'The Lockdown' early Aphex Twin and 'Information War' - built around a sample from an early '80s film about public access to information - Cabaret Voltaire. All of these are good in their different ways, but the best track is the beaty, shimmering 'Golden Dawn', from the very first release on Atmosfear, beautiful and sinister. It all sounds very nineties, and we are probably now far enough in to the current decade to look back on its predecessor with our rose coloured spectacles firmly in place. That being so, this is a timely retrospective - but whatever its age there is some excellent stuff here: go get it. Top.
