neofolk   apocalyptic folk

After a short intro of ambient noises, Kim Larsen launches into soft, sad vocals accompanied by acoustic guitar. Augmented with keyboard backing, this style is pretty much maintained throughout the CD. This recording is third in a trio with "Nighttime Nightrhymes" (1999) and "Emptiness: Emptiness: Emptiness" (2001). As the title suggests, Kim has moved from Norse inspiration to reference non-Norse occult themes. Although hailing from Denmark, OTWATM sounds uncannily like American neofolk in the Backworld mould which you should take as a recommendation. The closing version of 'Lucifer' is voice only, but it's a melodious one and the unusual approach is carried off well. Dark, loungey and recommended.
