Dr Mehdi Hassan – Head, School of Media, Communication, Beaconhouse National University

“The government must tighten its rules against plagiarism and copyright laws so that nobody dared cheat again. All universities have rules against plagiarism and authorities need to implement them. Students and officials responsible for plagiarism should be expelled or punished by demotion and that the promotions of officials could be held for a specific period. The only thing needed is to strictly implement the rules. Plagiarism is considered a crime abroad and it damages the credibility of individuals and institutions and therefore Pakistani educational institutions and officials need to develop a strong scrutinising system. Not only is stealing somebody’s ideas and themes considered plagiarism, but so is copying research work, books and software. I have asked HEC to pay special attention to the development of research work in social sciences because no society can develop without the presence of experts in liberal arts and social sciences. I have told HEC Chairman Dr Attaur Rehman that no society can develop without having scholars in liberal arts and social sciences, as they provide a logical base for a society.”
