Crew William F. Stein, 41-23711

Hi to everyone,

I'm searching for informations and pictures about the Stein-crew (41-23711). They crashed at Brandlucken (Austria) at October 1, 1943.
I'm doing research especially on that crash because it was one of the first crashes within the "Austrian" area. Therefore the attention of the public was very high and even people from Vienna (2h away) came to the crashplace to see the "dead Americans". I found some pictures from the crash place at contemporary newspapers.
Looking at the MACR I found out that one crewmember survived the crash: the Navigator Lt William W. Sykes. What happend to him?
I would appreciate any information about the crew and plane.

Thanks,

Georg

In formation from "Ted's Travelling Circus" shows that William W. Sykes parachuted into Heilbrunn, a tiny village tucked into the mountains north of the old fortress city of Graz, in southeast Austria. He was taken to the Heilbrunn inn. Austrian farmers showed him watches taken from the bodies. Nazis tokk him away for 19 months of captivity. Sykes died July 26, 1993 in his Florida home.

    Georg,

William F. Stein's crew's remains were eventually discovered by the Army in a village cemetery. Stein and his men were identified, placed in a single casket, and returned to the U.S. On March 13, 1950, the families gathered at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, to bury their sons, even though their doubts and hopes never
    entirely died.
