Who is ADV?

Once, not so very long ago, there was a magical, far-off place that made wonderful, entertaining animated films that didn't all star cats and mice and never insulted the viewers' intelligence.  This kind of animated film was called anime, and it was made in a place called Japan.  Unfortunately, on this side of the Pacific Ocean, there were many people who believed that animated films were only good for young children, so they refused to import the wonderful films from Japan into North America.  This made many fans in the U.S. and Canada very sad, so eventually, some of the fans got together and formed clubs to watch copies of the wonderful films that other fans had sent over from Japan.  Unfortunately, this was very time consuming and expensive, so only a few people at a time were ever able to see the wonderful films.  In the early 1990's however, things began to change.  A few companies noticed what the fans were doing and decided that perhaps there was enough interest in anime to actually legally license the rights to some of the more popular anime titles and to try to release them commercially. One of these pioneering companies was A.D.Vision, which was formed by some of the same fans who had helped make anime popular in America in the first place.

Born in August of 1992, A.D.V. was the brainchild of founders John Ledford and Matt Greenfield, two anime fans who felt that the time was right for a company that would take a different approach to selling anime in North America.  At that time, almost all of the anime shows that had been released in the U.S. were fairly serious and usually focused on spaceships and giant robots.  As long-time fans of  anime, Ledford and Greenfield knew that there were many other kinds of anime being produced in Japan, and they decided to acquire the rights to an anime unlike anything that had ever been released in the U.S. before…
DEVIL HUNTER YOHKO.  Funny, scary and sexy, YOHKO was an immediate hit and A.D.Vision was soon able to acquire the rights to other new and different anime titles.  The people who keep the A.D.V. machine running are also fans of anime and great animation, and A.D.V. has always been willing to take risks when it came to promoting the growth of anime fandom in North America.  In addition to an ongoing commitment to releasing such decidedly "non-mainstream" anime titles as DRAGON HALF, MIYUKI-CHAN IN WONDERLAND, RAIL OF THE STAR and KIMAGURE ORANGE ROAD-SUMMER'S BEGINNING, A.D.V. was one of the first North American companies to invest in an original anime production with BURN UP W, the first to commit to a slate of "serious" anime TV series with BLUE SEED, NEON GENESIS EVANGELION, SORCERER HUNTERS, and the first to commit to an unproduced TV series with the upcoming BUBBLEGUM CRISIS: TOKYO 2040.  As the new millennium approaches, A.D.V. will continue to be the most innovative importer and producer of anime in North America and the U.K., and look forward to some truly spectacular new announcements in 1999 and beyond!

ADV's Web Collective: Who Created This Web Site?

The ADV Web Collective, also known as the "Oooh that's cool, lets do that too Group" began tossing around ideas for a new look and feel to the ADV website over a year ago.  As with everything, things get pretty hectic around here at so it took us awhile to take ideas and form them into fact.  But with a little team work, some screaming from management and a good dose of inspirational music, we managed to pull off a new look for the ADV FILMS web site.  A look that we are particularly proud of.  The fun doesn't stop here though.  The collective has many new additions coming so stay tuned!!

ADV's Web Collective Members:

Dan Rockwell - Chief Design / Layout / Content-o-matic Groove Guy
Known for his belief in loud techno music to help the creative process, Dan is the man with the plan so to speak.  He's essentially the guy that is typing this in right now for you to read later.  He's in charge of the Sightings, Interviews, and News and overall development of the site.  He's also the resident DJ at ADV and believes that the key to increased efficiency lies solely in the hard pounding beats of techno music.

We are the collective!

David Williams - Chief Coder Extrodinare
Looking to code something?  Need something coded?  David is our man!!  He's also a great "Ummm Dan... we need to add this too.." guy!  David continually finds new things for Dan to do and together they make for an awesome team!

Janice Williams - The Great Organizer
Janice makes sure that Dan and David are busy!  She also maintains the press release section.  She is the great organizer of which all things in the universe rotate around... we could not surivive without her!

Matt Greenfield - Text-o-matic
Often when creating a website, the need for text and or lots of it requires that extra special touch.  Matt's got the magic touch.  He's the synopsis man giving you all the info on your favorite video title.  Matt's also the toy king at ADV.

Andy Orjulea - Wonderous Gif Giver
We wouldn't have that groovy opening logo or a cute animated Gamera without Andy.  He is the great Gif giver of life. He is also an ADV Gallery page creator. Andy is known for his love of swords, approach with caution.

Brad Atwell - The Info Answer Man
Odds are that if you emailed info@advfilms.com, you emailed Brad.  He is the internet answer man.  All incoming questions and comments go to Brad.  He's also a huge Sailor Moon fan... approach with extreme caution.

Rod Peters - Captain Promo!!
So there you are, reading about ADV in some hot magazine thinking "Man this company is everywhere!".  We'll you're right, we are!  Rod is the promo man, he spreads the good news of ADV throughout the land.  Rod is also keeper of the 'really huge Eva models' which we often use for promotional events.

Laura Gadbois - Graphic Engine Gatekeeper & Creative Thinker
In order to have access to the Engines one must first learn the ways of the Gatekeeper.  Laura maintains the artistic engines that power this incredbily kick ass website.  She also lends a hand in the creative process with ideas.  Laura is known for harboring huge amounts of candy near her desk.

Larry Koteff - Graphics Engine #1
Larry is the machine!!  He cranks out images at an amazing pace for us to use on the website.  Larry's also an ADV Gallery page creator.  He's deadly with his crossbow dartgun and is big fan of Evangelion.

Doug Smith - Graphics Engine #2
The Golden Boy of ADV cranks out images along side with other engines at an amazing pace.  Doug is also an artist and often draws bizarre looking characters on the side for the ADV art board.  He's an ADV Gallery page creator too.

Hiroko Fukumori - Graphics Engine #3
Blessed with the ability to understand  Japanese, Hiroko is an incredible asset to the ADV collective.  Often when the rest of us are completely lost watching a new show,  Hiroko is only one who really knows what's really going on.  She is also an ADV Gallery page creator and big fan of lava-lamps.

Kevin Hinnant - Graphics Engine #4
Silent but deadly, Kevin cranks out images all day long for the web effort.  He is known for his love of the Burn Up Warrior series and would someday like to travel to Mars.

Music is everything!  Gotta have it, gotta love it!  This month's collection of tunes arrives after the lastest monthly splurge of very much need dan tunes.

Most of this stuff is rare, hard to find items.  Lots of german trance here, some dark techno, some good house floor fillers and more.  Enjoy!  And may the updates be with you!
