Every tech support pro knows their unofficial motto "expect the unexpected." Users of older browsers may run into an unexpected, though not Earth-shattering, hiccup that ironically aligned with the rollover to 2000 on Dec. 31, 1999 — all the VeriSign Inc. digital certificates in Netscape browsers older than 4.06 and Internet Explorer 4.5 for Macintosh and older, quietly expired on New Year's Eve. If you use a newer Netscape version (4.06, 4.07, 4.08, 4.5, 4.51, 4.6, 4.61 or 4.7), rest easy. There is no need to upgrade.
