The Manchester Universities Chess Club is a friendly gathering for people who are interested in chess. We cater for all levels of play from beginner to international, and everyone is welcome. We cover all of the Universities in Manchester (Manchester Uni, UMIST, RNCM, Manchester Met), apart from Salford, who are covered by Salford Chess Club. For more details, you can email the club secretary John on : secretary@chess-club.man.ac.uk. We meet every Wednesday afternoon during term time from 2:30pm onwards (usually until 4:30pm or 5:00pm at the latest) in the Manchester University physics building (Schuster Laboratory) on Brunswick Street, and our home matches take place in the Man Uni Students Union building on Oxford Road. If you're not sure where these venues are, you may need a map. The club currently runs first and second teams in the Manchester and District League, and details of these matches are available, along with last year's results. We also came 1st= (but 3rd on tiebreak) in the 1998 Inter-University Rapidplay Championships. As well as the chess club, weekend tournaments take place regularly within reach of Manchester, come along for more information. To find out what is going on in the world of chess view our links page
