London-based Global Market is offering 1on1 Lite (www.1on1mail.com), a free ad-supported e-mail service that employs 2,048-bit encryption and a self-shredding feature that lets the sender obliterate sent messages once they've been read. CEO Leo Scheiner is so sure of the security of his product that his company is offering $50,000 to whoever can defeat 1on1's encryption. Given that a Cray supercomputer would require one-and-a-half times the anticipated life of the sun to crack a 2,048-bit key, he doesn't expect to have to pay up anytime soon.
