Last week, federal judge Marilyn Patel ordered 19-year-old Shawn Fanning to shut down his Napster Web site. On Friday, an appeals court stayed the order until Napster's appeal could be considered.

When Penn State's new School of Information Sciences and Technology opened last August, PNC bank donated $1 million for students who sought a better education in the technological world.

James G. Thompson, professor in the Department of Kinesiology in the College of Health and Human Development, has been selected by the Penn State Chapter of the Golden Key National Honor Society to receive its "2000 Outstanding Faculty Member" award.

SPORTS

The Penn State men's and women's soccer teams have both been ranked among the Top 10 teams in their respective National Soccer Coaches' Association of America (NSCAA) preseason polls, a Penn State Sports Information press release said.
