The bad:  A bit heavy; needs larger screen and more RAM; lacks audio input; lacks second USB port.
The bottom line:  Beneath the iBook Special Edition's stylish chassis lies the heart of a powerful laptop with some important improvements--but its speed leaves something to be desired.

Someday far in the future, long after Apple Computer is history, many of its products are likely to merit museum treatment. Case in point: the new iBook Special Edition, with its eye-catching graphite-and-white chassis. But there's more than good looks here. Apple has eliminated some of the shortcomings of the original version and has produced a first-class laptop that is stylish and reasonably affordable.

"The iBook SE 466MHz Rocks"
I've been the owner of a G3 desktop now for over a year. My new iBook now runs as fast or faster than my desktop iron. With the upgrade to FireWire support and the faster processor, this screaming green machine has every thing I want, except for the smaller screen real-estate. In exchange for the portability, it's a reasonable trade off. The only real draw back that I can find is that I'm not good with the trackpad yet. I find that adding an external mouse makes things much easier. That should be easy to address. For $59 bux, I can have that sleek new Apple optical mouse. Now all I have to do is wait for those Key Lime peripheral "covers".
