Take Care Of Those Gums!

Gum Disease Linked To Serious Health Problems

teethPORTLAND, Posted 1:33 p.m. July 7, 1999 -- Studies show that one in every four people has gum disease. Chances are, that means they have other problems, too.

KOIN 6 News, our news affiliate in Portland, reports people with gum disease are twice as likely to have a heart attack. Women with gum disease are more prone to give birth to premature babies.

The bacteria on your gums can spread into your blood stream. Apparently, those bacteria can block blood vessels.

Now a new study found you can reduce your risk by taking the supplement Co-Enzyme Q-10. According to KOIN, it helps the gum tissue.

However, experts warn that taking the supplement will not replace brushing and flushing.
