The
South African NCGLE’s Equality and Human Rights Awards 1999.
The
purpose of the award is to honour individuals and/or organisations
that have made significant contributions to human rights and
freeedom of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered people
living with HIV/AIDS in Africa. In future, award recipients
will be honoured at an annual event in South Africa. Through
this award, the NCGLE hope to offer public recognition to
a wide array of organisations and individuals who have worked
hard, often without support in the struggle for the human
rights of lesbian and gay people and people living with HIV/AIDS....MORE

On 'Q',
the Mail and Guardian's gay and lesbian website Robert Colman
portrayed Zodwa Shongwe.
At 27
years old Zodwa Shongwe is Human Relations Manager and Acting
General Manager of Windybrow Theatre in Johannesburg. But
perhaps a greater achievement is how she has reconciled her
traditional African beliefs with her out lesbian identity.
The way she sees it, there is no clash between them. She speaks
about herself with a warm and open smile of self assurance...MORE
