The planes that crashed into the World Trade Center on September 11 caused a huge explosion, filling the Manhattan skyline with billowing clouds of black smoke. New Yorker Eric Cheong heard the blast and got a call telling him of the attack on the twin towers. He immediately climbed to the top of his five-story building on the Lower East Side of Manhattan and photographed the event until the buildings collapsed.
