Sony VAIOs, now with XP
Sony launched a plethora of new VAIO notebooks this month; they feature the new Windows XP (standard or optional), plus a wide range of processors and displays. At the top of the heap is the PCG-FX390, which sells for $2,100 with Windows XP Home Edition or $2,200 with XP Professional (depending on the configuration). The two-inch-thick, bevel-edged black slab sports a 15-inch LCD with a high native resolution of 1,400x1,050 pixels; it also packs a 1GHz Intel Mobile Pentium III with 256MB of memory (expandable to 512MB) and a 30GB hard drive.
