President Announces Robert D. Blackwill to be Ambassador to India

President George W. Bush today announced his intent to nominate Robert D. Blackwill to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of India.

"Bob Blackwill understands the important place India holds in my foreign policy agenda, and he will be an outstanding American Ambassador to India. He will bring a wealth of expertise to the position," said President Bush.

Currently the Belfer Lecturer in International Security at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government, Blackwell is the author and editor of many books and articles on U.S. foreign and defense policy. He served during his Foreign Service career as Political Counselor in Embassy Tel Aviv; Director of West European Affairs on the National Security Council staff; Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs; Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European Affairs; US Ambassador and Chief Negotiator at the negotiations with the Warsaw Pact on conventional forces in Europe; and Special Assistant for National Security Affairs to President George Bush, 1989-90.
