Cove in southwestern New Brunswick closed to shellfish harvesting

ST. GEORGE, N.B. (CP) -- Fisheries officials have closed Simmons Cove in southwestern New Brunswick to shellfish harvesting due to high bacterial counts.
 The ban, which took effect Tuesday, applies to all bivalve mollusks, such as clams and mussels, said Ron Smith of the federal Fisheries Department.
 The closure will remain in effect until the counts come down, he said.
 

Police in New Brunswick identify man killed along a roadside

SAINT JOHN, N.B. (CP) -- Police have identified a man killed in a car-pedestrian accident Monday night in Saint John.
 Richard Tays, 35, was apparently loading debris onto a truck at a roadside when he was struck from behind.
 There was no word on possible charges.
 

Nova Scotia government putting 1,000 new computers into schools

HALIFAX (CP) -- Nova Scotia's Tory government is putting 1,000 new computers into schools across the province this fall.
 Last month, the province announced it was spending $16.2 million over three years on improving education, including the purchase of new computers.

Cape Breton business community throws cold water on idea of separation

SYDNEY, N.S. (CP) -- The business community in Cape Breton is throwing cold water on the idea of the island separating from Nova Scotia.
 The president of the Sydney-area chamber of commerce says a planned study into the issue will only create uncertainty at a time when they're trying to rebuild the economy.
