The BBC runs a wide range of services which encourage people to learn. It is committed by the Royal Charter to providing education programmes and interprets this in a variety of ways.
Among these are formal education materials for children and adults across the UK. They include programmes and websites for schools, and other vocational and basic skills output for adults.
BBC programmes also aim to inspire learning more broadly and informally in topics such as science, nature, history, social issues and citizenship, leisure activities and children's entertainment.
The BBC uses interactive television and the internet to support its formal and informal learning services. It also works with external organisations expert in designing education programmes and projects.
The 'home base' for education is the BBC’s Factual & Learning division. Learning projects also result from work with other divisions such as Nations & Regions, CBBC, Music & Radio, Sport, News and Drama.
