Sash 'n' sass ...
There are times I'd like to metaphorically thwack Cardinal George with his crosier. But . . . it's probably a safe bet his eminence thinks this columnist is a nettlesome tsetse fly he'd like to smack with a swatter.

It is a daughter's journey into hell . . .
. . . A daughter who claims her father calmly proclaimed his innocence before he was executed at Stateville Prison on March 22, 1995.

I've got a question for state Rep. Charles Morrow (D-Chicago), the lame duck legislator who helped defeat the horse slaughter ban legislation in the House . . . by not voting.

Sneed hears Deborah Mell, the lesbian daughter of Ald. Dick Mell (33rd), is formulating plans to lead a group of protesters to the various homes of top Dems who would be instrumental in passing a gay rights/gay marriage bill.

Sunday, May 23, 2004

Hmmm ...
Sneed hears rumbles the basketball legend may have purchased part of the Milwaukee Bucks -- making good on a bid which failed last year.

Friday, May 21, 2004

Fantastic!
The ban on the slaughter of horses for human consumption passed the Illinois Senate Thursday. You did it, folks! You did it, state Sen. John Cullerton! You did it, actress Bo Derek! Now, on to the House and the magic of state Rep. Bob Molaro.

Thursday, May 20, 2004

Yippee!
State Sen. John Cullerton, who revived the anti-horse slaughter bill, gives Derek credit for not only turning heads . . . but turning the votes of senators who voted it out of the Senate Executive Committee Wednesday afternoon.

Bill's back!
Bill Daley, who will now become my banker (midwest chair of J.P. Morgan Chase and Bank One Corp.) is back in town and already hit the dinner circuit Monday night at the Chicago Council of Foreign Relations dinner. Welcome back.

She's a '10' . . .

Segal story ...
I'm not pointing fingers, but insurance mogul Michael "Mickey" Segal's trial on racketeering, tax conspiracy and mail fraud, etc. charges, is a page turner. Consider this tidbit from Segal's handlers: Thomas McNichols, former CFO of Near North Insurance, testified last week that he had worn a wire and worked with government prosecutors. But Segal's handlers claim while he was working with the government, preparing financial documents to ensnare Segal, McNichols was still taking Segal's money to the tune of $166,000 a year in salary, a $50,000 bonus and a $250,000 severance package that he negotiated for himself.

The name game . . .

Amazing . . .
Consider: The father of JonBenet Ramsey, the child beauty queen whose murder at the age of 6 has never been solved, is running for the Michigan House of Representatives.

Tuesday, May 11, 2004

Giddyap!!!
Dateline: The Scoop Line . . . Watch for state Sen. John Cullerton (D-Chicago) to propose a new anti-horse slaughter bill this week in Springfield!

Sunday, May 9, 2004
