“NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw” provides reports and analysis of the day’s most newsworthy national and international events.

The early evening newscast inaugurated its current format Aug. 1, 1970, when “The Huntley-Brinkley Report” was expanded to seven nights a week. On Sept. 5, 1983, Brokaw became the program’s sole anchor.

Regular features include “Lifeline,” a comprehensive medical and health report; the “Fleecing of America,” an examination of governement waste; “In Their Own Words,” segments in which individuals talk about the day’s news; and “Home of the Brave,” which profiles ordinary men and women who have done extraordinary things.

Every evening, Brokaw takes viewers “In Depth” with a longer-form piece examining the top news story of the day.

Previous NBC News anchors have included John Cameron Swayze, Chet Huntley, David Brinkley, Frank McGee, John Chancellor, and Roger Mudd.
