June issue, Budget Travel magazine - Summer's here and the floodgates have opened, with tourism officials predicting the best summer for travel since 2001. Bookings are up to almost all parts of the globe, and in some cases prices have risen too. But not in all cases. We've managed to unearth what we think are 40 terrific travel opportunities for frugal travelers.

USA & Canada

Sierra Club for$395
Whether you want to pitch in with trail maintenance or you prefer a quiet canoe trip, Sierra Club Outings has adventures for all ages and abilities. Some upcoming examples: service projects in Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah (June 13–19 and 20–26, $395); canoeing the Pine River, Mich. This driving tour of the Maritime Provinces takes you from the wild tides in Fundy National Park (New Brunswick) to the home of Anne of Green Gables (Prince Edward Island) to the famous lighthouse called Peggy’s Cove (Nova Scotia). Your accommodations—in hotels, country inns, and B&Bs—are arranged ahead of time, but the path you take to reach them is up to you.
