Financial Aid

Ostar-Hutchison Daily Collegian Scholarship

Established: Allan W. Ostar and Roberta Hutchison Ostar, both members of the Class of 1948, endowed this scholarship in 1989. Allan was editor in chief of The Daily Collegian and Bobbie served as news editor. During her career, Bobbie worked as an independent researcher and writer. In 1965, Allan became the first full-time head of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities. He was a speaker at the Collegian's 100th anniversary reunion in 1987 and the 1991 reunion, which marked 50 years of daily publication for Collegian.

Purpose: To encourage participation on the student newspaper, The Daily Collegian, and provide financial assistance to students who have a proven need for funds to meet their necessary college expenses.

Eligibility: All sophomore and junior members of The Daily Collegian News Division, who have a proven financial need, and who demonstrate that their continued involvement with the newspaper is in jeopardy as a result of this financial need. All majors are eligible.

Selection Procedure: Recipients shall be selected by the School of Communications Scholarship Committee in consultation with a Collegian adviser.

Term of award: One academic year.
