Ok, lets’ get this straight. Gen-Y is confused,
can’t speak their mind and think that in order to make it big, one has to
snap old ties. And, of course, in order to give shape to your personal dreams,
one has to be at Chowpatty in Mumbai!
And clichés of all
clichés, all young girls out there, here’s a word of advice. In
case you are tomboyish and hang around with guys in dungarees and dirty tees,
the only way you can win a guy is donning whole nine yards of red, pink, or
yellow chiffon. Cause it is only then that a woman’s charm and coyness
comes through. Yawn!
At a time when we are getting used to some
realistic cinema,
Popcorn Khao Mast Ho
Jao
had to tell us that each time your old Maruti model gets towed away,
you disown it for fear of being a social miscast seen with a staid looking
desi
car.
For God’s
sake, get real. Coming from the 20-something director Kabir Sadanand, this was
supposed to be a "fun film" with loads of pop and corn to it!
Alas,
it falls flat on both counts. Devoid of any fun, it comes across as a haphazard
collage of thoughts of a young trio.
Debutant Akshay Kapoor (Rahul),
Tanisha (Tania) and Goldie (Yash Tonk of Kahin Kisi Roz fame) are friends in
Rebello High, a Riverdale type college in small town Sanganer, where young girls
like Rashmi Nigam (Sonia) strut around in skimpy clothes and
‘see-through’ sequined tops. Talk about girls going
places!
Suddenly our man Rahul, musically inclined, has this sudden
flash of a bright spark by which he decides to chart out a musical career in the
city of dreams, where else, Mumbai?
And he tells himself and his
pals that in order to be successful, he shall not ‘keep in touch’
with them for the next 5 years. If you are wondering about the logic behind this
self-imposed exile, don’t. Cause, by the end of the 18 reels, it’s
obviously not observed!
Doing away with all forms of logic, the
light-eyed hero is in the process of becoming a music director for musical
magnate Deepak Tijori (Vikramaditya Kapoor).
