With reference to the editorial,
'Heroes and Worship' (Oct 2), arguing that the Mahatma may be a God-like figure
to his followers, but was very much a human being, wart and all, I wish to point
out that it's not for nothing that millions across the world still look up to
him for inspiration.
In a world increasingly torn by hatred and
violence, his philosophy of ahimsa could provide the healing balm. One may or
may not agree with Rabindra Nath Tagore's assessment of Gandhi as "A lover of
men and not of ideas" but there is no denying the fact that the path shown by
him through his struggles, preachings and martyrdom, will lead us to a safer,
happier and better tomorrow.
