As time expired, the trainer instantly wrapped the ice bag around her waist like an electronic ab machine, creating a visual reminder of the player's forceful collision with the turf during the second half.
And this was a typical game for Karin Grap.
The sophomore forward is providing Penn State's field hockey team with a much-needed spark from the sidelines, helping the squad succeed in battle.
"Karin is the ideal player off of the bench," said Penn State field hockey coach Char Morett, likening Grap to the Energizer Bunny.
Grap's importance on the team was evident once again on Sunday, when her fifth goal of the season increased Penn State's lead over Indiana to 6-1 midway through the second half.
Like a sixth man in basketball, Grap has excelled off of the bench, gaining the trust of her teammates and pushing the starters everyday, Morett said.
Grap gained valuable experience in her utility role last season, finding playing time in 12 games and scoring a goal just minutes after entering the game against Connecticut.
"I have increased confidence and patience now," said Grap, adding, "I am improving on my stick and possession skills."
With performances like her hat trick against St. Joseph's earlier this season, Grap has shown the ability to take control of the field. The forward's relentlessness is also evident in her desire to hunt down the ball, like a dehydrated person searches for water.
"Speed and hustle are my two greatest attributes," said Grap. "I try to get to every ball I can."
Grap's speed and hustle were evident when, during the second half, she lost her footing and slipped violently to the ground. After collecting herself, Grap nonchalantly stood up, shaking off the force of the fall and downplaying the subsequent pain.
With a smile on her face, Grap could be seen just moments later chasing after the ball in full stride.
With powerful play from Grap and her teammates, the field hockey team hopes to build upon its 8-1 record.
