Three Things American Companies Must Understand to Compete Globally
With supply chains stretching to China, customers as likely in Paris as Peoria, outsourcing operations in India and development in Russia, the reality of today's economy is that we must be global to succeed. But how do we succeed at being global? Here are three areas where most American companies need to get better, if they are going to succeed globally.

The Vikings: A Memorable Visit to America
"Exploring the New World a thousand years ago, a Viking woman gave birth to what is likely the first European-American baby. The discovery of the house the family built upon their return to Iceland has scholars rethinking the Norse sagas."

Microsoft suffers Window blow from EU
The EU struck at the commercial backbone of Microsoft’s global software empire today (12/22/04) – forcing the company for the first time to strip its Windows platform of a popular feature to give competitors a better shot at success.

An EU court ruled Microsoft must immediately divulge some trade secrets to competitors and produce a version of its flagship Windows operating system without the program that plays music and video.

Yet more Information

Build it and they will come becomes See it and you will know. The war on information overload continues.
At Medley http://www.medley.co.uk we strive to deliver the greatest benefit to clients, this hasnt been easy over the last few years as we all know times and money have been tight.

Two of the best products I have seen and used in anger are very close to my heart with respect to the war on information. I have to share them with you, it would be rude not to really. Akin to getting my new toy car ay christmas then only letting you play with the box!

The first is a company I came across whilst working for Rubus a few years ago, http://www.speed-trap.com/ this product has now matured into one of the best monitoring tools available. We configured this for Dialaphone in the UK and got some amazing information back. Millions of actions and events! You can actually log what people do as they do it and then play back sessions - I still think there are issues about privacy here but its an amazing tool. It can really cut through the dross and point the right direction re useability issues and configuration.

Whilst speedtrap generates lots of info fractal edge cuts it into bite size portions. http://www.fractaledge.com/ Do you remember the stupid movies where they always portray the latest systems as 3d graphics and flashy interfaces. Well this is that, I have been speaking to these guys for about 12 months now, as yet I havent had the chance to show it off but the product speaks for itself. Gervase is a smart guy and is really passionate about info handling (even more so after a beer!) and before everyone shouts back this is like Grokker - I know its a bit like grokkers groxis but then the target market is different.

As the budgets come back the business will be looking for the next leverage opportunities. I dont think there is anything radical that will make it to the mainstream quickly as a few years ago. However the maturing products out there are looking sweeter and sweeter.

So I say again bring me more information, I can handle it!
