Dr. Carl
Sagan received a letter on November15, 1983, addressed to
him at Space Science Building, Cornell University, Ithaca,
NY, advising the public that Dr. Sagan was an authority on
many subject matters. The letter went on to advise that on
November 22, 1983, there will be a Terrorist Bomb attack on
a market or warehouse that is distributing free food to people
in San Salvador. There will be a diversion for an attack on
a fuel storage facility in the vicinity. If Columbia goes
as scheduled, there will be an explosion in the rocket due
to a fuel leak. The letter was signed "M. Springfield." A
pretext call was made to M. Springfield who was identified
in the telephone directory. The call revealed that M. Springfield
died in 1972, and his widow now resides at the address. She
had no knowledge of the letter sent to Dr. Sagan.
