On alternate Monday nights, Laura Trombino, 75, can often be found in her kitchen huddled over the stove with her upstairs tenant and granddaughter-in-law, Kristen Rainone; Rainone's sister, Melanie Punger; and the women's mother, Susan Punger, as well as one former upstairs tenant, Stacey Coveney, among others. Sometimes there are as many as 11 women.
38 YEARS LATER
Loneliness, boredom, a copycat streak - even fear - may have figured in Rick Johnson's motivation for scribbling on the canvas bottom of the bunk above him on a Vietnam-bound troop ship 38 years ago. But the immortality of his graffiti - "Ricky & Pat, Manorville Long Island New York Jan 6 1967" - was hardly a consideration.
