Polar challenge

Three Evening Standard employees are preparing to brave sub-zero temperatures and trek hundreds of miles across one of the most inhospitable landscapes on earth to raise money for charity.

The trio are taking part in the Polar Challenge, a 320-mile race to the magnetic North Pole.

Tavienne Kelly, Tim Smith and Anton Lewis will spend weeks living together in a tent and racing on skis towards their target, despite having had no previous experience in the Arctic.

The group are hoping to help raise £9,000 for Maggie's Centres, which help people adjust to living with cancer. The money will go towards a rehabilitation centre in London.
