Many significant Australian sites including Aboriginal sites have been lost forever due to neglect, vandalism and development. The Government has appointed you as a Cultural Heritage Advisor. Your task is to recommend to the Government which significant sites should be protected and preserved for future generations.

Which sites will you save?

STEP ONE

Visit the links below and record the following information on three Aboriginal and three non-Aboriginal significant sites.

• name of the site or building
• location and description
• what is it used for
• who uses it

STEP TWO

Which Aboriginal significant site and which non-Aboriginal significant site will you recommend for immediate preservation?

Prepare your report to the government in the form of a Kid Pix or PowerPoint slideshow.
It must include:

• the information you gathered on the worksheet
• illustrations, photographs, maps etc
• your reasons for selecting these particular sites
• suggested strategies to enable the preservation of these sites

STEP THREE

Explore both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal significant sites in your local town or area.
You may need to undertake an excursion around your local area which may include photography and/or interviews with knowledgeable members of the community.

Present your work as either:

• a newpaper article
• T.V. news broadcast or documentary incorporating oral report and/or video
• radio broadcast incorporating oral report and/or recorded interviews
