So many of us around the world are watching what you do and admire you more than we can express. You are truly North Korea's Schindler. I will write to the South Korean embassy to express my outrage, and know that many others will join me. If they expel you, I will write my members of Congress as well. This letter will include a detailed history of your activities on behalf of North Korean refugees and your treatment in South Korea.
If South Korea expels you, we can make this a political and media fiasco for them. It will open more eyes to Noh Moo-Hyun's destruction of free speech in South Korea. One could even say that by expelling you, the South Koreans would create more unintended publicity for North Korean refugees than you could create yourself. Of course, your friends at the Hudson Institute will be very interested in this.
A question for our members of Congress: given the treatment of Dr. Vollertsen by the South Korean authorities, what common values are U.S. troops protecting there? Appeasement? Exploitation? Moral blindness to the suffering of others?
I was once one of those soldiers. Now, I think the time has come to bring them home to their families and end this $12 billion annual subsidy to one of the richest, most decadent nations on earth.
