Mac OS X Tiger makes it easy to create just the right Mac experience for everyone in your home. Its simple multi-user setup and powerful parental controls let you choose how much freedom to give each family member — while protecting your little ones from things they shouldn’t see.

Share a Single Mac

Mac OS X Tiger lets you set up separate user accounts for every member of the family — giving each account its own file storage location and personal settings. So when you log in with your password, you’ll see your Desktop picture and you’ll have access to your documents, pictures, bookmarks, email accounts and more. And when your kids or spouse log in, they’ll have their own Mac experience waiting for them, just the way they left it. Even better, you can quickly switch from one account to another without affecting any programs that are currently running.

Secure the Cookie Jar

Kids love computers, and they love to explore and tinker. You wouldn’t think twice about keeping dangerous household items out of your kids’ reach; Mac OS X Tiger helps you do the same with the information on your Mac. When setting up your child’s user account, Mac OS X Tiger lets you specify any account as a managed account and limit the changes a child can make to your system. For example, you can lock all System Preferences. Save paper and sanity by granting or limiting printer access. Enable or disable CD and DVD burning, installation of new programs and more — however you see fit.

Your Own Personal Post Office

Protecting your children from unwelcome email is quick and easy with Mac OS X Tiger Mail. Just create an email safe list for your kids’ Mail accounts to ensure they only exchange email with people you know. Emails from people not on your safe list are automatically (and silently) routed to your account for approval before they are sent to your kids.

Don’t Talk to Strangers

iChat for Tiger features built-in controls that allow you to decide who your children can chat with online. Approve the buddies you trust and iChat blocks all attempts to send and receive instant messages with anyone else. iChat also automatically hides or displays online status so that only buddies approved by you will be able to see if your kids are online.

Field Trip Permission Slip

Start your kids’ Web exploration off on the right foot with Safari Parental Controls. Specify exactly which websites your children access by bookmarking only those sites on the Safari Bookmarks Bar. With Safari controls enabled, your kids browse only the sites on the Bookmarks Bar. New web addresses typed into the address field or non-approved sites linked from approved sites will not load on Safari. Instead, an error message appears, giving your child the option to request approval on blocked pages.

Application Access: You Decide

Kid-friendly applications for the Mac abound, but you should decide which ones your kids get to use. A T-rated video game such as World of Warcraft may be great for your teenage daughter, but you may not want your six-year-old to play along. With Tiger, you have the option to enable certain applications and disable others. Even applications your child downloads from the Web or receives from friends are subject to your approval first. And if you share your system with multiple family members, you control who has access to what. Application access controls span every account on your system, making it easy to enable different applications for different family members.
