Get the most from the exquisite selection of resolution-independent fonts in Mac OS X Tiger with Font Book 2. You can easily install, preview, search, activate and deactivate the fonts you need. The Quartz rendering engine displays these fonts with amazing clarity at any size. And you can have thousands of fonts on your system without fear of slowdowns during installation or everyday use.

Free Font Library

Mac OS X includes a library of high-quality Roman, Japanese and Chinese fonts licensed from designers and type foundries. The included fonts represent a full spectrum of typographic styles from the classic printing types of 400 years ago through the present day.

One or Many

Double click any font in the Finder to see a preview in Font Book. Install it with a single click. Then work with fonts like you’d manage songs in iTunes or pictures in iPhoto. You can manage fonts individually or as groups, and you don’t have to bother with special folders or locations.

Enable fonts dynamically

Interactive Activation

Font Book gives you complete, interactive control of your fonts, letting you enable and disable fonts — individually or in groups — to customize which fonts you see in an application. Font Book lets you shorten the list of fonts to the ones you want to use, and if you’re working with many fonts, you can specify the right fonts for any project. This is particularly helpful when you have multiple versions of the same font families. In Tiger, you can even automate these tasks using the new Automator.

Advanced Typography

In addition, the Font Book provides advanced typographic features, allowing you to take advantage of font ligatures, kerning, number spacing, rendering fractions, swashes, number and letter casing and more. Want more flexibility? The Character Palette of the Font Book gives you a new easy way to preview a character rendered in every active font.

Spotlight on Fonts

Looking for a special font? Tiger’s Spotlight technology lets you search based on a variety of font attributes, including font name, copyright, languages, styles and more. You can even search for individual characters in the Character Palette by name — like family and typeface name within Font Book.

Automate Me

With Tiger’s new workflow automation tool, Automator, you can control every element of the font system. You can automatically scan a document for which fonts it uses and create font collections to use for sharing or archiving. Or you can enable and disable fonts based on certain actions in other applications, such as opening or closing files. Sounds complicated, but it isn’t. Automator makes it easy.
