Internet Explorer 5.2.3 for Mac OS X

This latest version — version 5.2.3 — enhances browser compatibility for users who work on a network with secure authentication or with proxy servers. It also provides all the latest security and performance enhancements for Internet Explorer 5 for Mac OS X.

Note   Internet Explorer 5.2.3 for Mac OS X is not compatible with Mac OS 9.x or earlier. It requires features that are available only in Mac OS X. If you use Mac OS 8.1 to 9.x, you can download and install Internet Explorer 5.1.7 for Mac OS 8.1 to 9.x.

System requirements

To use Internet Explorer 5.2.3 for Mac OS X, your computer must meet the following minimum requirements:

Processor: Macintosh PowerPC.
Operating system: Mac OS X version 10.1.5 or later.
Memory: 128 MB of RAM.
Hard disk: 20 MB of available hard disk space.
Programs: Apple QuickTime version 5.0.2 or later.
Modem: 9600 bits per second (BPS) modem (28.8 Kbps or higher recommended).
Internet access: Internet connection through either an Internet service provider (ISP) or a network. Internet access might require a fee to an ISP; local or long-distance telephone charges might also apply.

Tip   If you're not sure whether your computer meets these requirements, you can display information about your computer by using the Apple System Profiler program included with Mac OS X. To start the program, open the Utilities folder in the Applications folder on your hard disk, and then double-click the Apple System Profiler icon.

Installation instructions

Before you install this download:

  • Quit any other programs that are running, including virus-protection programs, because they might interfere with installation.
  • Make sure you have the name and password for an administrator user account on your computer. Mac OS X requires you to enter this information during installation. For more information about administrator accounts, see Mac Help.
  • Make sure Apple Disk Copy version 10.1 or later is installed on your computer. By default, Mac OS X includes the correct version of this program.

To install this download:

  1. Print this page if you want to use it as a reference when you are offline.
  2. Make sure your computer meets the minimum system requirements for this download.
  3. In the table above, click the language version and file format you want.
  4. Follow the instructions on the screen to save the file to your hard disk.
    If you are using Internet Explorer, the Download Manager saves the file to the desktop unless you specified a different download folder in the Preferences dialog box (Download Options pane).
  5. On your hard disk, double-click the file that you downloaded in step 4 to expand it.
  6. Double-click the Internet Explorer Installer volume.
  7. Double-click the InternetExplorer5.2.3.pkg icon to start the setup program.
  8. If a message asks you to enter an administrator name and password, enter the name and password for an administrator user account on your computer, and then click OK.
  9. Read the terms of the Microsoft End-User License Agreement (EULA) and, if you accept these terms, click Accept.
  10. Click Contine, and then follow the instructions on the screen to finish installation.

To remove this download:

  1. Switch to the Finder.
  2. Open the Applications folder on your hard disk.
  3. Drag the Internet Explorer icon from the Applications folder to the Trash.
