It is again time to convey season greetings to
our readers,
2005 has been a busy and good year. Many activities have formed part of our mutual efforts to further strengthen the fine relations between South Africa and Denmark.
Only in the last few months we have renewed and extended our cooperation in the fields of Environment, Skills Development, and Governance. We have concluded the first phase of a very successful cooperation on cleaner production in the textile industry (saving the industry millions through more environmentally friendly production methods) with a show of beautiful fashion created by young talented South African designers. And we have proudly supported a University of Pretoria United Nations youth conference.
On the climate change agenda fruitful cooperation took place around the establishment of the so-called Designated National Authority and we have just concluded a green house gas (CO2) emission reduction deal with a South African company.
On the commercial side it has been a pleasure to introduce major Danish companies to the medico-sector, fisheries and a number of other areas, as well as arranging briefings on the latest developments on Black Economic Empowerment.
The Embassy is fortunate to have relations with several other countries in the Southern African region, Botswana, DRC, Lesotho, Madagascar, Namibia and Swaziland, where we also enjoy numerous fields of interaction and cooperation.
We are now looking forward to another full year. We shall do our best to keep you posted, including through this website.
Until further notice - from the Embassy of Denmark - we wish you a prosperous 2006.
Happy New Year.
Torben Brylle
Ambaassador
