Personnel Announcement

President George W. Bush today announced his intention to nominate two individuals to serve in his administration:

The President intends to nominate John Thomas Schieffer, of Texas, to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Japan. He currently serves as U.S. Ambassador to Australia. Ambassador Schieffer previously served as the President of J. Thomas Schieffer Management Company. Earlier in his career, he worked for the Texas Rangers Baseball Club as Partner-in-Charge of Ballpark Development, President and General Partner. Prior to these positions, Ambassador Schieffer served for three terms in the Texas State House of Representatives. He earned his bachelor's degree and master's degree from The University of Texas.

The President intends to nominate Linda Morrison Combs, of North Carolina, to be Controller of the Office of Federal Financial Management at the Office of Management and Budget. Dr. Combs currently serves as Assistant Secretary of Transportation (Budget and Programs) and Chief Financial Officer. Prior to this position, she served as Chief Financial Officer at the Environmental Protection Agency. Earlier in her career, Dr. Combs served as Assistant Secretary for Management and Chief Financial Officer at the Department of the Treasury. She earned her bachelor's degree and master's degree from Appalachian State University and her Ph.D. from Virginia Polytechnic Institute.
