Personnel Announcement
President George W. Bush today announced his intention to nominate two
individuals to serve in his administration:
The President intends to nominate Robert Stanley Nichols of
Washington, to be Assistant Secretary of the Treasury (Public
Affairs). Mr. Nichols currently serves as Deputy Assistant Secretary
for Public Affairs. Before joining the Department of Treasury, he
served as Communications Director for the Electronic Industries
Alliance. Prior to that, he served as Communications Director for
Senator Slade Gorton and as Press Secretary for Congresswoman Jennifer
Dunn. Earlier in his career, he was the Political Director for the
Washington State Republican Party. During the George H.W. Bush
administration, he worked at the White House as an aide in the Office
of the Chief of Staff, and at the Department of Transportation in the
Office of the Secretary. Mr. Nichols is a graduate of George
Washington University.
The President intends to nominate Suedeen G. Kelly of New Mexico,
to be a Member of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, for the
remainder of a five-year term expiring June 30, 2004. Ms. Kelly
currently works as an attorney at the firm of Modrall, Sperling, Roehl,
Harris & Sisk, and as a Professor of Law at the University of New
Mexico School of Law. She was previously a fellow at the United States
Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, and served as Regulatory
Counsel for the California Independent System Operator. She is a
graduate of the University of Rochester and earned her law degree from
Cornell School of Law.
