Understanding Unix Migration: A Demand-Side View
Published: March 23, 2006
Summary
Customer attitudes toward Unix migration continue to evolve in the marketplace. Over the past few years, IDC has completed several comprehensive primary research studies that examine the drivers and inhibitors toward migration in today's Unix installed base. This document summarizes the results from a recent survey of 400 Unix/RISC customers regarding their plans for Unix migrations and provides insights and analyzes the impact on the Unix/RISC server installed base.
"Rapid technological advances and ever changing business conditions are driving companies to continually evaluate their server infrastructure," said Matthew Eastwood, IDC program vice president, Worldwide Server Research. "Companies want to better leverage their IT investments for performance and efficiency as well as to drive down hardware, and software spending and management costs and migration is one of the strategies frequently targeted as part of IT standardization programs."
