Jean Sibelius The great Finnish nationalist composer who straddled the 19th and 20th centuries. Unlike his contemporaries, Sibelius did not change with the times, turning his powerful musical voice instead to the creation of works inspired by the Scandinavian landscapes and myths he loved. He wrote mainly orchestral works, including the popular violin concerto.
