Igor Stravinsky Stravinsky was one of the greatest composers of the 20th century. Russian by birth, his highly original music was the epitome of modernism. Passing through various phases it included early Russian and French-influenced works, neo-classicism and finally the use of his own form of serial technique.

STRAVINSKY IN ONE MINUTE |
- Studied with the Russian composer Rimsky-Korsakov
- His pivotal ballet The Rite of Spring caused a riot at its premiere in Paris given by Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes
- Had his property confiscated during the Russian Revolution
- Exiled from Russia, he was forced to leave his adopted country, France, in 1939
- In Paris he became friends with Debussy, Cocteau and Picasso
- He planned an opera with Dylan Thomas, but Thomas's death in 1953 intervened
- Triumphantly welcomed back on a trip to the Soviet Union for his 80th birthday in 1962
