NEWS

Saturday afternoon's chilly weather couldn't keep some students from playing "the game that ties you up in knots."

The State Theatre submitted requests for $1.5 million in federal money to help with the facility's funding -- which so far has come only from the state, local and private level.

Blue T-shirts and winter gear decorated the corner of Curtin Road and University Drive as 813 Coaches vs. Cancer participants bounced and stretched in preparation for the 5-kilometer run/walk.

Parents might want to consider washing their children's mouths out with soap, given the results of a recent poll that reports people are using and hearing profanity more than ever.

An attacker ran toward his victim armed with a raspberry as a weapon but fell to the ground after being hit by a fake brick.

Student assaulted after getting off bus

Sporting only bikini underwear, a tie and a confident smile, Adam Bryant strutted across stage during the formal wear portion of Saturday's Mr. and Ms. Gay Penn State pageant, chuckling as a crowd of about 150 students in HUB Heritage Hall roared approvingly.

The scene at Mount Nittany Middle School swirled with colorful sequins and fringes this weekend during the third annual Traditional American Indian Powwow.

Priyanka Jain (junior-biotechnology) smeared bright purple powder on another woman's cheeks and forehead and cried, "Happy Holi!"

Rapper Talib Kweli will be the headlining act of this year's Movin' On and will be performing at 10:30 p.m. April 22 on the main stage on the HUB lawn.

Seven teams representing colleges from across the mid-Atlantic region played a scientific game of bocce Saturday in the White Building using miniature cars powered by alternative fuels.

Paternoville resurrected itself this weekend at the Penn State Agricultural Fields, but this time, students camped out to fight for a cause slightly greater than front-row seats.

Members from the four greek councils were dressed to impress and received awards of all sizes, but none of them were gold Oscar statues, at the 12th annual Greek Oscars, held last night at the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel.

SPORTS

After every few big points, senior co-captain Malcolm Scatliffe would tell himself "Fight!" as he walked back to baseline. The No. 47 Penn State men's tennis team could have used a little more of that fight after dropping the doubles point to No. 4 Ohio State in a 5-2 defeat yesterday at the Sarni Tennis Center. The Nittany Lions (13-3, 3-3 Big Ten) came out on fire against the Buckeyes in doubles, holding serve with some of the nation's top players, especially at the No. 1 spot.

Anthony Morelli hopped off the team bus, watching his feet as they moved toward the players' entrance. There was a certain eagerness to Morelli's step -- Derrick Williams, the second player inside the stadium, was 20 feet behind the rising junior quarterback.

Nine runs and an abused dugout wall into yesterday's game against Iowa, it appeared as though the Penn State baseball team had finally reached its breaking point.

The walk-off home run -- the most severe emotional swing known in sports. The Penn State softball team was one pitch away from pulling itself out of a season-worst six-game slump before experiencing the demoralizing side of just such a shift in the grandest of fashions.

Saturday night, 500-plus fans witnessed the last regular-season match of five seniors that have done more for the No. 11 Penn State men's volleyball (17-7, 11-1 EIVA) in the last four years than most fans can recount.

A top-five finish in the NCAA Championships for the Penn State men's gymnastics team was something that was expected at the beginning of the season.

Mickelson cruises home for second green jacket

It was a characteristic ending to an uncharacteristic season.

Hobart managed to be more efficient on its clears, picked up more ground balls and fired more shots than the No. 18 Penn State men's lacrosse team.

The Penn State women's tennis team was unable to gain its first away victory this season as it fell to Ohio State 6-1.

Thanks to a second week of inclement weather in a row, the Penn State men's track and field team spent much of its meet under, rather than in, historic Franklin Field in Philadelphia.

After traveling entirely across the country, senior All-American Jennifer Leatherman showed her West-Coast competition why she is one of the most feared throwers in the East. With nothing short of a dominating performance, Leatherman took home first-place finishes in all three of her events: the hammer, the shot put and the discus.

Penn State students will have the first look at Pittsburgh pop-punk band The Punchline's 37 Everywhere tour tonight at Crowbar, 420 E. College Ave.

No trumpets, no flutes, not even a violin or two will be present at a School of Music concert tonight -- it's nothing but percussion.
