NEWS

After a controversial reaction to the Penn State College Republicans' plans to hold an Illegal Immigration Awareness Day, Penn State issued a statement last night urging event planners to rethink their approach.

It's not just ice cream a group of students wants to replace -- it also wants to oust Penn State football coach Joe Paterno.

A new student parking lot is in the works to rectify the loss of student parking lot 83 on Park Avenue that will come with the construction of the Dickinson School of Law.

Conservative author and political commentator David Horowitz will speak about academic freedom at Penn State tonight, following a protest held by the College Democrats.

A Penn State student was charged yesterday with six counts of receiving stolen property and three counts of theft after she allegedly stole about $2,000 worth of items from a friend's dorm room, a fraternity and various stores.

Fans of the current University Creamery will soon have to say goodbye to the Borland Lab they now know.

Approaching the one-year mark of former Centre County District Attorney Ray Gricar's disappearance, his family is taking steps to find closure and has decided to temporarily suspend his law license.

The recent Internet slowdown that some students on campus have experienced is due to reinstating controls on residence hall Internet traffic, university technology officials said.

SPORTS

With just four matches remaining, the No. 54 Penn State men's tennis team could be on the verge of a historical Big Ten season.

The fear is returning for visiting pitchers to Penn State, and there's a good reason why.

For a group that's on the cusp of the postseason and a possible NCAA championship appearance in its home gym, the Penn State men's volleyball team has a ways to go.

The bitter cold weather could not stop the Penn State women's varsity 4 crew team from taking first place last weekend at the Knecht Cup in Cherry Hill, N.J.

Derrick Williams has now watched and waited on the sidelines, inhaling the unfamiliar scent of inactivity.

In probably the most dramatic game the Penn State women's lacrosse team played this season, they came out on the losing end.

Fans left Beaver Field early yesterday. Not because they were unhappy, not because of inclement weather, but because they felt the Penn State baseball team had its game against Duquesne so well in hand that the eventual outcome would be the same whether they stayed to watch or not.

To be able to succeed as a group in any walk of life, you need strength at the top.

Three meets into the outdoor season, the Penn State women's track and field team is ready to get into the heart of its competition. With rising opposition has come rising efforts from the Nittany Lions, who put together a collection of regional qualifying performances last week at the Pepsi Team Invitational in Oregon. This weekend should be no different.

ARTS

"Isn't that a far, long trip for the fish?"

Henry Moss is going to die this weekend in the Forum -- as part of No Refund Theatre's latest production.

The HUB-Robeson Gallery has been converted into a church with hundreds of stoles -- or religious robes -- in a rainbow of colors dangling from the ceilings, hanging on the walls and even draping over a faux pulpit.

"What's your favorite scary movie?"

Julio Matos (graduate-directing) will bring five musical theatre majors to the Pavilion stage when he directs Out of Line, an original musical revue, this weekend.

With hip-hop performers breaking ground on the Penn State music scene, indie rock isn't the only kind of student music that's popular on campus.

During the week, Justin Brown and Steve Holtz are sales representatives, but on the weekends, they transform into rockers in the band Hello, Vixen.

If it's not Baroque, don't fix it.

It seems as though Mother Nature has finally decided to let warm weather creep its way into Happy Valley, and, if the old saying is true, the flowers in May should be just lovely after this month's showers.

It's time for spring cleaning -- and time to go through that old cosmetic case and chuck heavy foundations, black liners and frosted glosses from previous seasons.
