In 1997 Zimbabwean artist Bulelwa Madekurozwa (28) won the prestigious Mobil award with 'Sunday Afternoon', portraying two policemen in a gay erotic posture. It's the essence of Madekurozwa's work: two worlds that meet - cruelty and tenderness, the so-called third world and the west, heterosexuality and homosexuality, black and white, modern and traditional work, men and women. 'I investigate the contradictions and stereotypes in each of these worlds, as well as the conflicts amongst them', says Madekurozwa in an interview with Dutch quarterly Zuidelijk Afrika on the eve of an exhibition in the Hague Artoteek from May 31 until June 17. Open for the public Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10 AM until 6 PM. Denneweg 14/a
